Vinegar, Laundry, and Being More Green!
When it comes to vinegar, laundry is the perfect place to test out this amazing cleaning ingredient! The truth is that the products you use to wash your clothes have two implications: firstly, they can be washed into the water streams, making our world a less healthy place. And secondly, the products will be in everything we wear, everything we have closest to our bodies, the sheets on our bed, and the air that we breathe.
Why Vinegar?
If you haven’t heard it before, you’ll certainly hear it again on this site: vinegar is a great cleaning ingredient! This is a lot gentler than using harsh chemicals that we usually find in our laundry detergent – meaning it’s great for those with sensitive skin, it won’t cause us health problems, and it won’t pollute our earth.
Vinegar Laundry Tips
I hope I’m starting to convince you of the reasons to use vinegar in your laundry. Here are some tips to get the best results:
- Use Instead of Detergent: This is the most obvious use for vinegar. Simply replace your detergent with a cup of vinegar, or mix and match the two. The great news is it keeps colours bright and is shown to work just as well as chemical alternatives for its cleaning power!
- Get Rid of Bad Smells: I’ve written before about how vinegar can get bad smells out of the floor for natural carpet cleaning – well it does the same for your washing! But the best way to do this is to fill a bowl of hot water, add the vinegar and hang clothes above the steam. This is great if your clothes stink of something like smoke.
- Clean Your Washing Machine: Everyone’s washing machine needs to get cleaned from time to time, and vinegar is a much more eco-friendly alternative to bleach. Just add a cup and run it on a full cycle with the machine empty.
- Stain Remover: Last but not least, try rubbing vinegar on stains before washing. It works great!
As you can see, vinegar for laundry is the perfect eco-friendly option. Plus it’s cheap when you buy in bulk!
