Natural Soap – Making Your Own
Making natural soap at home really isn’t as difficult as it may seem. With practice you’ll find that it gets easier and easier, and at first the hardest thing will be knowing when the soap’s ready.
When you’re following these instructions, please bear in mind that some of the fumes can be toxic so do not breathe them in, and only work in well ventilated areas. Also remember that things can get very hot, so be careful!
Just follow these instructions to make your own natural soap:
1. Get all of your ingredients ready, which are:
9 oz of lye set aside, and the following ingredients mixed in a bowl:
4.5 cups of olive oil (the cheapest kind), 2 cups of grapeseed oil, 2 cups of coconut oil
2. Let the lye cool slightly at the same time as warming up the oil to a medium heat. Make sure that the soap and the lye end up at the same temperature. You can judge this by touching them (just put your hands on the side of the bowls and compare). You should then pour the lye into the bowl with the oils.
3. Now mix the oils and lye together by using a hand-held blender. After a couple of minutes they should be fully mixed.
4. You can now add two teaspoons of essential oil – this depends on your preference.
5. Put the whole mixture into a mould, such as a baking tin. Wrap this tin with many towels to keep it hot, then leave it aside for around 24 hours.
6. Once it’s ready, cut the soap into chunks.
You now have your own natural soap!
