Natural Drain Cleaner – A Guide on How to Make Yours

Read below our sponsored ads for more information on eco friendly cleaning to help the environment, your health and your budget.

When it comes to cleaning your drains I have always find that most of the available products are just full of nasty, unhealthy and toxic ingredients. When it comes to being more eco-friendly and making your own natural drain cleaner it really isn’t as difficult as you might have imagined! It really just takes a few ingredients that you probably already have. These ingredients will help you to clean your drains in both a healthy and eco-friendly way.

Baking Soda

So many of the natural cleaning options that I’m going to share with you through the course of this blog are made using baking soda and/or vinegar. And these ingredients can be put to great use when it comes to your drains! All it takes is half a cup of baking soda, with one cup of white vinegar, a gallon of hot water and the juice that comes from half a lemon.

To start you are going to have to pour the baking soda down the drain, then pour the white vinegar and lemon juice mixture down after it. This will create a foam and you should wait for a few minutes before pouring the gallon of hot water down. This is a great way of cleaning drains, but also of preventing them ever getting in a bad state!

Other Solutions

Another thing that’s supposed to work to keep your drains clean is by pouring a drink such as Coca-Cola down your drain once a week. You can also use other carbonated drinks which will get rid of the muck that’s down there.

Salt also works to help clean your drains. Just pour a cup of salt down the drain followed by boiling water. This method will wash away anything that is stuck down there. Let the mixture sit in the pipes for a while before you wash it away thoroughly.

Of course, there is also the plunger method that will bring up any big blockages in your drains!

Conclusion

As you can see, there are so many healthy ways to make your own natural drain cleaner! It really isn’t as hard as it seems, and it’s possibly even easier than making the trip to the store to buy a ready-made drain cleaner that’s full of chemicals. Using these recipes to prevent problems is a great way to save money by going green!

  3. I’ve always found cleaning products expensive and I often wonder what they put into the cleaners as some smell too powerful. I have to admit I do use vinegar a lot around my home from cleaning my shower door to pouring down the drain. I never thought of using coke down my drain, I will have to give this a try. Thanks for the information; this has helped me a lot.
