Recently I decided that I wanted to use air freshener. I used to use ready made stuff from the shops, but that has since run out and I decided that air freshener really can’t be good for the environment, or my health! So I started looking around for some homemade air freshener tips which I’m going to share with you today.

When it comes to our homes, did you know that the air inside the home is far more polluted than the air outside of it?! This is why it’s important to not just mask smells in the air with air freshener, but try to get fresh air into the home as often as possible. I try to keep the windows open whenever the weather isn’t too cold outside. When you’ve done this, you can use the tips below for your homemade air freshener.

What’s the number one ingredient you will be using? Essential oils. Remember, these air fresheners create a nice smell, but they do not mask bad odours. If you need to do that then using recipes including vinegar is a great idea.

All you need to do is mix your favourite essential oil with some water in a spray bottle and it creates a simple air freshener. Alternatively, put your essential oil onto a ball of cotton wool and leave it in places in the house – this will let a great smell flow through the air – it’s so simple but very effective!

There are some other ways you can create great smells in the home – baking is a long time favourite, burning essential oils and scented candles are just a few other ideas.

This is how I make my homemade air freshener, but let me know if you have better ideas. It is my belief, however, that things don’t need to be complicated to be effective.
