How Does Vinegar Work to Keep Things Clean?
The reason that vinegar is so great at disinfecting surfaces is that it has very high levels of acidiity. In fact, the levels of acid found in vinegar mean that it is effective for use as an antiseptic. This means that you can either use it diluted or undiluted and it will kill germs without any problems.
Vinegar is actually a little less acidic than lemon juice. The pH of vinegar is at 2.4, whereas the pH of water is 7. 7 is the neutral level, so you can see just how acidic vinegar really is.
How to Get Started Cleaning With Vinegar
There are many different uses for vinegar when it comes to household cleaning. You can simply use it diluted to clean counter tops in the kitchen and the bathroom, or you could make a paste (mixed with baking soda) to get rid of any unwanted mold and marks on tiles and stainless steel. You can even add it to your laundry to make sure that it comes out extra clean! Vinegar does smell strong, but this smell fades as the vinegar dries.
